At the beginning of all times
a sacred creature thrived close
to the dwellings of humans. ..
who tied together the heavens, the earth and the underworld.
the keeper of harmony -
guardian of the Spirit of Mother Earth.
Alas, the harmony was disturbed
and the Blue crocodile vanished.
Nearly ravaged to the point of no return
by an advancing civilization,
harmony could be lost forever.
Signs and clues emerge
in the dreams of Mexican shamans...
the Blue crocodile might still exist.
Mayan descendants, it seems,
keep the last of such creatures a secret in the deep jungles of Chiapas.
New generations must touch the Blue crocodile again...
so they may acquire a higher state of consciousness.
When the Blue crocodile reappears, the nearly lost harmony in between the man and Mother Earth will be restored.
As long as the dreams are true
and Blue crocodile still survives...
On the background of legend about the Blue crocodile, our film explores the interrelation of people and local crocodiles.
American Crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus), one of the largest species on the planet can reach lengths of 6 meters and in Mexico both naturally and as a result of advancing urbanization exist closer to humans than ever before.
Ordinary people live beside them, biologists study them, conservationist preserve them, fishermen encounter them during their daily work routine. What is it like to live day by day in contact with such a creature? What is the true touch of a crocodile like?
The documentaries about crocodiles we are accustomed to refer mostly to the animals rather than the humans. Our goal is to show crocodiles in different light. Through the eyes of people who may either love or hate them. We want to show what kind of effect crocodiles have emotionally, psychologically and physically. Profiles of individuals whose lives have been destroyed by a crocodile attack as opposed to those who risk their lives to protect and save them..A situation unheard of by most of us. In Mexico a matter of daily experience.
Stories of those, who 'touched' a crocodile build a mosaic forming a new perspective of this extraordinary animal who lives so close to them. By boat, plane, automobile and on foot we explore the swampy areas of West Mexican mangroves abundant with crocodiles. Experimental pictorial sequences intensify the emotions. Scribbles and concepts selected from ancient Mayan scripts and mystical books enhance the atmosphere.
The document "Touch of the Blue Crocodile" will allow the viewer truly, quietly, 'touch' the enigmatic world of the crocodiles. The images and people who we have encountered as well as the sounds of mangroves will speak to you. The sounds of nature, not a loud narrative. We are witness to the serenity of crocodile homes and life histories, where crocodiles exist in a state of economy and notional meditation. They allow some people to share this state.
They let people approach... almost to touch.
Can we find the Blue crocodile?
